In brief

  • The Android Auto rollout began on October 20.
  • Mexico is not listed among the exclusions; access is rolling out gradually.
  • Google built-in will receive the feature in the coming months, with no exact date announced.

Personalized answers on the road

Google began rolling out Personal Intelligence in Android Auto on October 20. The feature lets Gemini draw on personal information stored in Google services to answer questions in the car, provided the user has authorized those connections. The announcement focuses on these personalized responses while traveling.

According to the company’s examples, Gemini can combine flight reservation details with delay information, locate a place that appears in a photograph or suggest restaurants matching the driver’s preferences. These are capabilities described by Google, not the results of an independent En Foco test.

The two platforms have different timelines: Android Auto is starting to receive the feature now, while vehicles with Google built-in, which integrate Google services directly, will get it in the coming months. Google did not give a specific date for completing that second rollout.

What the rollout means for Mexico

The announcement suggests Mexico is included, though that does not guarantee immediate access. Android Auto is supported in Mexico, and the country is not listed among Personal Intelligence’s regional exclusions. Personal Intelligence is available in beta to eligible adults with personal accounts; business and education Workspace accounts are excluded.

If Personal Intelligence is already enabled in the Gemini app, that setting carries over to the car. Anyone who prefers not to use it can still use navigation, music, calls and queries without personalized responses.

Requirements and permissions worth checking

Before looking for the feature, check the basics. Gemini’s official help page requires a phone running Android 11 or later, at least 2 GB of RAM, Gemini set as the digital assistant and an Android Auto-compatible vehicle.

Also review which apps are connected. Disconnecting them does not automatically delete activity already saved in Gemini; that is managed separately. Google also warns that the assistant can give incorrect information. Do not rely on it for critical or safety-related decisions while driving.
