Recognizing a word is not the same as recalling it
You recognize a word in a list of options, but draw a blank when you try to say it. Image Flashcards, one of the features Duolingo highlighted in its October 19 roundup, is designed to address that gap.
After a lesson, you may see an image and be asked to say the word aloud, with no answers to choose from. If you get it wrong, the app shows and pronounces the answer, then brings the card back for another try. At the end, you can review the words you found most difficult.
The idea is simple: try to answer before looking for a clue. You do not have to get it right every time. Mistakes can help you identify what to review.
Learn from a game you lost
The roundup also includes Game Review, which lets you revisit chess games from your history. Oscar points out good moves, missed opportunities and mistakes, and gives you a chance to find a better move. It is a way to understand what happened before jumping into another game.
Game Review is not new this week. Duolingo introduced it on August 11 and lists it as available for iOS and Android. Its appearance in the October roundup is a reminder, not a new launch.
Are the flashcards available in Mexico? The roundup does not specify availability by country, course or account, so we cannot confirm that you will see them today.
