A beta on the roadmap

On October 15, Proton said it was working toward an official Drive beta for Linux. The initial release will probably be a background service that syncs selected folders, rather than a full graphical app. The post outlines plans for the following six months, without giving a specific release date.

Start with what you need to keep

If you are considering a different cloud service, first list your important folders. Separate documents you edit daily, files you only consult and copies you need to keep even if you delete the original. This helps you decide what to sync and what to retain as an independent backup.

For example, set aside a test folder containing documents without sensitive information. Once a suitable version exists for your computer, check whether changes appear where you expect them and whether you can recover a file. Do not experiment with your only copy.

An announcement is not a ready-to-use migration

Before changing your workflow, read the documentation for the version you will actually install, including its limits and supported systems. A beta is for testing; it does not mean every work requirement is covered.

Do not close your previous account or delete files simply because a roadmap promises an easier move. Verify your copies and how to recover them first. Good preparation is less about choosing a brand than knowing where each document is and what would happen if syncing went wrong.
