Two different decisions

Microsoft announced independent preferences for training and for using content to inform AI-generated answers. They preserve eligibility for traditional Bing search, but guarantee neither traffic nor payment. They will start taking effect on February 1, 2027, as pages are recrawled.

Think of learning and looking something up

One way to picture the distinction is to imagine two uses of a library: studying its books to learn patterns, or opening one when answering a particular question. This is a helpful analogy, not a literal description of how individual texts are stored. For a publisher, agreeing to one use should not necessarily mean agreeing to the other.

The IETF document Microsoft links to is still a draft, not a final standard. It is worth separating a shared proposal from the choices announced by a particular platform.

A review to plan, not a magic switch

Publishers using NoArchive or NoCache should review the transition before March 1, 2027. The official guide explains the steps and limitations.

If someone manages your website, ask them to document the uses you allow and how they will check the settings. Avoid changing tags blindly: allowing reuse, allowing crawling and appearing in search are different questions. This article explains the announcement; it does not change En Foco’s permissions.
