The file stays in Markdown
Google announced native .md editing in Docs and previews in Drive. The feature includes collaboration, comments and version history without converting the file to another format. According to the announcement, anyone with a Google or Workspace account can start by uploading a file to Drive.
Why it matters beyond technical teams
Think of instructions reviewed by both a tool’s developer and the person who supports its users. A shared environment can help both improve the text without requiring everyone to learn a specialist editor.
A check before adopting it
Start with a copy of a simple document, check headings and links, and inspect the file you retrieve. Editing in Drive does not mean changes automatically reach a Git repository: that connection is not confirmed in this announcement.
