In brief

  • Announced availability covers the United States.
  • AI suggestions still need review.

What changes for moderators

Meta announced new Forum admin tools on October 23: a shared calendar of scheduled posts and AI labels indicating whether a post follows a group’s rules. The labels support a decision; they do not turn a suggestion into an infallible judgment.

A separate app for the same groups

Forum brings Facebook groups together in a dedicated app and keeps them synced. Meta began testing it in May and introduced more features in September. Announced availability covers the United States on iOS and Android, with users signing in through their Facebook account.

That distinction matters for readers in Mexico: this is not a confirmed local launch, nor does it mean every new feature will appear in the regular Facebook app. The service people already use and a separate app the company is developing are not interchangeable.

Rules still need human judgment

In our editorial assessment, a shared calendar could be particularly useful for a neighborhood or hobby group with several organizers: before writing an announcement, someone can check whether another moderator has already scheduled it. Coordination helps avoid both duplicate notices and unexpected gaps.

Moderation calls for a different precaution. An awkwardly worded question is not necessarily advertising, while a very short post may contain important information. Before adopting automated assistance, write understandable rules, agree on who reviews ambiguous cases, and explain how members can request a second look. A community’s quality cannot be measured simply by the number of posts its moderators process.
