In brief
- Version 1.30.4 was released on October 21.
- Check whether you use the Alpine image, Debian image or another installation method.
The update reaches beneath the reader
FreshRSS released version 1.30.4 on October 21, 2026. Its notes highlight an update to the alternative Alpine-based Docker image to address PHP flaws; they say the default Debian-based images had already been fixed.
That distinction matters: seeing the same reader in a browser tab does not mean every installation uses the same underlying components. This is not simply a change to colors or buttons.
Reading the news and maintaining the server are different jobs
FreshRSS brings RSS and Atom feeds together in a reader you can host on a server. It lets you organize subscriptions and import or export them using OPML. If someone else maintains your installation, updating the server is their responsibility.
Think of a folder of newsletters: you choose what to read, but someone has to keep the mailbox running. Before following technical instructions, establish whether you manage the installation or merely have an account on it.
Check the installation, not just the visible version
If you administer the server, review the release notes and the method you used to deploy it. Make an appropriate backup before changing it, then check that you can sign in, read your feeds and refresh a subscription.
An OPML export can help preserve subscriptions, but it should not be mistaken for a complete installation backup. There is no need to jump to a development channel on impulse either: use the documented procedure for your environment and confirm that the change actually took effect.
