In brief
- The announcement concerns Vivaldi 8.2 on desktop.
- Emergency protection was already in place before this additional safeguard.
Another layer, not the first fix
On October 23, 2026, Vivaldi announced the thirteenth minor update to desktop version 8.2. It adds compromised eMudhra intermediate certificates to the browser’s built-in blocklist.
The announcement explicitly says users were already protected by an emergency CRLSet update. This does not mean Vivaldi waited until October 23 to respond: it describes an additional safeguard.
Check the browser you actually use
This announcement concerns desktop. It does not establish that your phone has automatically been updated or that it uses the same version number. If you use several computers, check each installation separately.
On Windows, the official help page points to the Vivaldi menu, Help and Check for Updates. On macOS, the option is in the Vivaldi menu. Linux updates are handled with system updates. An automatic installation may still need a browser restart.
A calm check is more useful than an alarm
Save any open work and use the application’s update function or its official website. Then reopen the browser and check its status. A tab continuing to work does not, by itself, prove that an update is complete.
This safeguard does not make every website trustworthy or establish that your data was stolen. Avoid both extremes: absolute reassurance and automatic alarm. The practical step is to keep the browser current and pay attention to specific warnings that appear.
