Which version to look for

Google announced a Chrome update with 21 security fixes on October 29, 2026. The versions are 156.0.8078.79/.80 for Windows and Mac, and 156.0.8078.79 for Linux. Distribution takes place over the following days or weeks.

Maintenance you may not notice

The bulletin includes a critical memory-corruption vulnerability in MediaStream, identified as CVE-2026-76024. This article does not claim it is being exploited: severity and confirmed attacks are different facts.

Make time to restart

Save your work first, then check the version information inside the browser. If an update is pending, set aside time to complete it and confirm the installed version afterward. That check is more useful than assuming that closing a tab updated the whole application.

On a company-managed computer, consult the responsible team before changing installations. Do not download supposed patches from advertisements or messages promising to repair your browser. The cover is a conceptual illustration, not a Chrome screenshot.
