In brief

  • The PDF performance figure comes from Mozilla.
  • Mini Window remains in development.
  • Check which platform each feature targets.

Available now versus still ahead

In its October 27 Firefox roundup, Mozilla says the desktop PDF viewer now starts up to 45% faster. That is the developer's figure, not an independent benchmark or a promise for every file.

The roadmap includes Mini Window, a floating window that keeps a tab or part of a page visible. It is still presented as a future feature, with no confirmed general release date.

Try a familiar task

To judge the viewer, open a document you regularly use and see whether reading feels easier. A small receipt and an image-heavy manual are different tests. Keep the original before experimenting with annotations.

A floating window could be handy for following instructions while working in another tab. But do not build a workflow around it yet: an announced idea is not a tool already installed on your computer.

A list to follow, not one release date

The roadmap also includes reading pages aloud on desktop and Android, plus offline reading on Android. Those are specific platforms, not a simultaneous announcement for every device.

We suggest separating two questions: what can I use now, and what would I like to follow? That way, you can enjoy a small improvement without treating a list of plans as an update that has already arrived.
