A draft with its own space
In its October 19, 2026 preview, Mastodon showed a pop-out composer at the bottom center. It can be minimized without losing the draft. The proposal also simplifies navigation and separates content warnings from the setting for sensitive media.
A preview, not a promise for your account
The announcement planned to enable the design on mastodon.social on October 20, followed by a first beta. That announced schedule does not establish that every server already has stable version 5.0.
What to check when the change reaches you
Imagine drafting a long reply while reading a conversation: a separate draft can make it easier to return to the original message without leaving your writing behind. That is a practical way to judge an interface change beyond the shape of its corners.
Before posting, check the selected audience and review the composer settings. If your screen differs from the cover, do not assume something is wrong with your account: the official image is a design demonstration, not a guarantee of availability on your server or app.
