An app inside the car

Spotify launched a native app for compatible Audi vehicles on October 21. It runs on the car’s infotainment system without needing a connected phone for playback. The offering combines audio with visual features that change depending on whether the vehicle is moving or parked. Spotify says Free and Premium listeners can use it, although an Audi connect package may be required.

Which vehicles and displays are covered

Audi places the launch across 47 markets. Initial compatibility covers selected models on the PPE and PPC platforms from model year 2026: the A6 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, A5, Q5 and A6. While driving, the central display hides music videos and lyrics and disables sign-in and settings. Compatible passenger displays retain additional features.

Compatibility before expectations

Integrating an app into the vehicle allows controls to be designed for that particular environment. But having a native app does not mean connectivity or subscription requirements disappear. Before interpreting the announcement as an update for any Audi, users need to check the model, equipment and market.

The separation between driver and passenger matters when entertainment includes images. A parked car and a moving one do not provide the same context. It is therefore worth examining the restrictions rather than just the list of features. Seeing the Spotify name in the system is not enough to identify this new experience either: availability must be confirmed for the particular vehicle.
